Travel Guide
Sri Lanka

Two women smiling through a train window in Sri Lanka.

Sri Lanka has a remarkable amount of world packed into one island. Ancient cities give way to tea-covered hills, wildlife-filled national parks and palm-fringed coastlines. It’s the contrast between them — and the journey from one to the next — that makes travelling here so rewarding.

Best time to visit

  • December – April:  A popular time for the south and west coasts, hill country and Cultural Triangle, with generally drier conditions.

  • May – September:  A great time to look east, when the east coast comes into its own and much of the Cultural Triangle remains a good option.

  • Year‑round:  Sri Lanka's different weather patterns mean there's usually somewhere that works well — the key is shaping the route around when you travel.

What to expect

Sri Lanka is made for journeys with contrast. Ancient temples, tea-covered hills, wildlife-filled national parks and the Indian Ocean can all form part of the same trip.

Getting between them is part of the experience too, with slow train journeys, winding roads and landscapes that change remarkably quickly. It’s a country that rewards taking your time rather than trying to rush from one highlight to the next.

Planning Sri Lanka

The temptation in Sri Lanka is to fit everything in. I'll help you choose the places and experiences that matter most, then shape a route that balances exploring with enough time to actually enjoy where you are.

Places to visit

Yala National Park

One of Sri Lanka's best-known wildlife destinations, with elephants, birdlife and one of the world's highest densities of leopards.

Tea-covered hills, waterfalls and beautiful walking country, with the spectacular rail journey through the highlands becoming part of the experience itself.

Galle & the South Coast

Galle's historic fort pairs naturally with the beaches, surf towns and slower coastal pace of Sri Lanka's south. Galle is one of the country's recognised World Heritage locations.

The Cultural Triangle

Ancient cities, cave temples and Sigiriya bring Sri Lanka's extraordinary history to life — an area worth giving more than a flying visit.
